Sonu Niigaam is back on Indian Idol
The last time Sonu Niigaam came on Indian Idol, the contestants'' gave their best performances ever. So, on popular demand, the singer was back on the show. Before the show went on air, he gave the Top 5 some tips to further improve their performance. They seemed confident that they would create a dhamaka. But we would have to wait and see.
Kapil misses a step
The first to march onto the stage was Kapil. He seemed dressed for success, but his voice betrayed him. His song, Mujhe raat din, did not live up to expectations. Javed Akhar put it best: "Shaky start, bahut jagah sur choda, wrong pronunciation, gale ka kharash. Do I need to say anything more?" Sonu was also disappointed because did not follow his tips. Bad move, army man. When such an experienced singer tries to help you on your way, you should take his hand!
Rajdeep freshens the mood
Last week, Rajdeep paid a tribute to his cousin. Was this week going to another tribute-perhaps to Bhavya who was eliminated last week? He didn''t specify but his song certainly spoke volumes. The boy with the ''sweet smile'' seemed to lost in his song, Is pyar ko mein kya naam doon, to remember to smile. And his sincerity paid off.
Annu Malek was so impressed that he said, "Rajdeep, tu ne darwaza khatkatake nahin aya, thodke aya." Sonu was also all praise. "It was world-class singing. Maza aa gaya," he said. Wonder if Bhavya thought the same.
Sourabhee stumbles
She has been one of the most consistent performers in the galas. But this time, she seemed to have lost her focus. Though she chose a melodious Lata Mangeshkar number, Khamoshiyan gungunane lagi, she could not get her act together. Kailash Kher felt that her beginning was besura, while Annuji stressed that he wanted a surila Indian Idol. But Sonu had the last word. "The softness the song needed was lacking," he said. Take care, Sourabhee. At this stage, you can never predict how the janta will react to even the slightest mistake.
Two masters take the stage
The last time Sonu had come on Indian Idol, Kailash had expressed a wish to sing with him. And this week, that dream was realised. The two greats took the stage to give a fantastic rendition of Kailash''s Yeh Rabba and one of Sonu''s favourite songs of the singer. The audience was on their feet, dancing to the song. But what got them rolling in the aisles with laughter was what happened after the performance.
In his exultation, Sonu lifted Kailash up in the air and twirled him around. Not to be outdone, Kailash lifted Sonu up, too. We don''t know how he managed to do that and neither did Sonu. The poor singer was scared enough to scream, "Bachao, bachao." Thankfully, Kailash placed him back on his feet before he could take a tumble.
Dramebaaz Remo
Things have been going great guns for Remo. After consistent reds and negative comments, he finally got his groove back in the last couple of weeks. And this week was no different. He sang Main agar kahoon so well that Annuji was stumped. "Whatever we''ve said a good singer needs, you''ve done all that today," he said. Sonu said, "I''m impressed with how much you''ve improved. You never went off sur. You best ever performance." Wow! Keep it up, chota don.
Torsha touches hearts
Torsha''s voice has been letting her down too often in the recent past. Though the doctors have asked her to rest it, she cannot do it-at least not at this stage. So it was with a prayer on her lips that she walked on stage to perform Panchi nadiyan pawan ke jhonke. And it looked like God had answered her prayers because all the judges gave her a green light.
Sonali Bendre said, "It''s a fantastic song and you sang very well. You are in my Top 3." But Sonu had an interesting point to add. "Your voice has a different shine to it. But your performance lacks the madness I needs. If you get that then you will become great," he said. Listen carefully, Torsha. We don''t want to lose a singer because she was not dedicated enough. |
